The Hit Movie “The Secret” and the Hidden Message You May Have Missed

Since the release of the hit film, “The Secret”, both the movie and the message of the Law of Attraction have come under a great deal of criticism, being labeled as “money-making hype”. Now, after a period of major, global economic crisis, people are asking, “Are we any better off for the film that made the Law of Attraction a household phrase? Are we any better off as individuals or as a planet?”

WANT TO KNOW THE SECRET INGREDIENT TO ALIGNING WITH AND MANIFESTING DESIRES?

If you’ve studied and tried to practice the Law of Attraction even just a little, then you will probably know that, in order to manifest something you desire, you must be in alignment with it. Now, that sounds simple, but again, if you’ve practiced even a little bit, you will know that it’s harder than it seems. Why? One simple word (which you’ve probably also already heard many times): Resistance! When we focus on our desires, we tend to vibrate at the “lack of fulfillment” end of the continuum rather than the “fulfillment” end because of all of our “programming”. This, of course, messes up our alignment.

The Desire and the Object of Desire – Why are we Driven to be DESIRABLE?

Why is the entire world (or at least pretty much everyone in first world countries, where our other basic needs are met) driven by a need to feel desired? We all want to be wanted – not necessarily only sexually, although that is the most obvious way in which this drive reveals itself because sexual longing is one of the most powerful forms of desire. But intrinsically we all want to feel desired and desirable. Why? Well, the obvious answer is because we don’t want to be alone, we want company. But our drive to be desirable goes way beyond this, and finds its root at a spiritual level.

Manifesting Change – Taking Responsibility for What you Wish to Change is the First Step

Since the onset of the Law of Attraction buzz over the last few years, we have become accustomed to hearing statements like “You are the creator of your own reality”. And at some level, we know this to be true at least to a degree. In other words, we know that our thoughts and beliefs influence the way we view the world around us and the way we react to it. If you’ve ever known someone who suffers with paranoia or who lives in a victimhood mentality, this statement is easily observed as a truth. Their perception of things absolutely defines their experience with little or no room for debate. From the outside, it’s easy to see how they perpetuate their paradigm and simply give away all of their power. Most of us, however, find it much more difficult to apply this knowledge to our own situations, or to see how our own paradigm may be holding us back.

Self Forgiveness

If you are grappling with an inability to forgive yourself for something you have done, a “wrong” you feel you have committed to yourself or someone else, then you should know that there is not a more disempowered place to be than that. There are not more disempowering emotions than guilt and self-worthlessness. If you are carrying these emotions around with you – even (or maybe especially) if they are running on automatic pilot so that you are no longer consciously aware of them – then you are perpetuating internal resistance which will most certainly keep you from achieving your goals and desires. It’s time to look at letting go of that resistance so you can move forward in your life.

Getting in Alignment – Gratitude: Start a “Gratitude Chain”

Gratitude is the most powerful vibration there is for attracting goodness into your life. If you could spend all of your days in true and complete gratitude, you really wouldn’t even need all of the “things” you think you need in order to make you happy, because you would simply BE happy. At the same time, you would not be able to hold back the goodness and “things” that would flow effortlessly into your experience as a result of your positive vibration of gratitude. In fact, many great spiritual teachings impart the importance of giving thanks in one form or another. Christ ALWAYS gave thanks in every prayer and he also gave a powerful parable about the one who went back to give thanks. It is the single most powerful thing you can do to shift your vibration to a higher level.

Letting Go of the Emotional Traps – Addictions

Yeah, that’s a heavy word, addiction, but I do want to devote a short chapter to the subject because I think it is worth a quick look. When I say addiction, I don’t just mean traditional addiction to chemical substances like alcohol or other mind altering drugs. Research has found that some of the most addictive and indeed most powerful substances on the planet are in fact produced by our own bodies, by our own brains. They are the chemicals that govern our emotions and our emotional reactions to different stimuli. You’ve probably heard of endorphins, which are the “feel good” peptides. This was a buzzword that was all the rage in the 80s when the fitness craze first started. Endorphins are the body’s natural pain killer and can have an opiate effect on us, inducing a feeling of “well-being”. This hype led to the terminology “runner’s high”, which refers to that great feeling people can achieve when they do strenuous exercise repeatedly.
